Why do we do it?

In 2050 we will need to produce 60% more food to support our growing population, while today the majority of the people living in poverty in the world also live in rural areas (UN). In Mexico for example, 60% of the farmers live with less than 1,000 USD per year and lack connections to market.

Lack of access to information and information asymmetries within the productive chains are amongst of the main causes for the poor development of rural areas (FAO, SAGARPA).

Opportunity

Mobile innovation offers proven, scalable and cost-effective technologies to give wide access to this information.

In 2020, GSMA estimates that in 73% of the world's population will have access to mobile phones. In Mexico today this figure is already above 75%.

Solution

As a Digital Field Agent, using the most appropriate communication channels (SMS, WhatsApp, Call Center), Extensio provides farmers and field engineers with the information they need for their decision making processes. Also, we collect data on their needs and the impact of recommended technologies in the field, to make sure research keeps on adapting to the farmers' needs.
